The last guild meeting of 2019 was extremely busy, with lots of business to get through so we’d have the time to make at least one Felted Fairy.
Demonstrated by Margaret, our felting, origami, BSJ knitting member, the fairies looked relatively easy to make. However, it soon became obvious, that for a few of us, a little more practice might be necessary.
We kicked off the meeting with the usual guild business and were thrilled to welcome two potential members (fingers crossed). Full of the joys of Christmas and looking forward to the guilds 40th Anniversary in 2020, we barely stopped to draw breath.
It goes without saying that we managed to pause for tea, coffee and a biscuit which provided the ideal opportunity to admire the items several members brought for Show & Tell.
Mary brought with her, two examples of wet felting she had created several years before.
Niamh had finished her tapestry weaving and showed it to us.
Liz had a needle felted picture to show from a workshop in Kilfinane, also a small bag woven on cardboard and some wool dyed in onion skins and logwood from a recent workshop with Susanna Anker from Clare.
With so much to talk about and look at, we left ourselves with little over an hour and a half to complete our felted fairies.
A keen supporter of the Cork Penny Dinners, every year Margaret creates items to sell to family, friends and at craft fairs, donating the profits from these sales to the charity. Her little felted fairies are one of her most popular makes and we were thrilled when she offered to show us how they are made.
Margaret gave an excellent demonstration on how to make the little fairies, including different variations on the basic style. She also very kindly brought fibre, roving and other necessary supplies with her for members and non-members to use on the day for a small charge. Felting needles had been purchased earlier in the week by Maureen on a trip to Vibes & Scribes.
A big thank you to Margaret for such a fantastic workshop!
Our AGM is in January 2020, so our next meeting doesn’t take place until February 15th 2020.
