2020 marks the 40th Anniversary of the Handweavers Guild of Cork and as part of our celebrations, Tapestry Artist Extroirdinare, Fiona Hutchison will be sharing her love of all things weaving with us later this month.
This is the first in a series of posts introducing the current members of The Handweavers Guild of Cork.
We’re an eclectic bunch of fibre enthusiasts, ready to try our hand at any crafts, especially those involving fibre. In the main we try to focus on weaving, spinning and dyeing, but as you might expect we all tend to enjoy lots of other pastimes.
Introducing Margaret the BSJ Addict…….
Our last meeting was our annual dyeing day, held on 16 June at Gwen’s farm. What a day we had! The following members attended the meeting: Pascale, Heather, Gerda, Lora, Gwen, Olywn, Margarita, Stella, Frances, Maureen and Margaret.
Our May meeting was dedicated to spinning with different and unusual fibres.
On the May bank holiday weekend, the Interconnections 2 exhibition opened, in Boyle, Co. Roscommon. The event, an exhibition of woven tapestries spread across two venues, is a collaboration between Irish and Scottish artists and runs until 25th May.
It seemed only fitting that the first HGC blog post on our shiny new platform be about something inspirational and what better to look at than our group trip to Kilkenny.
