2020 marks the 40th Anniversary of the Handweavers Guild of Cork and as part of our celebrations, Tapestry Artist Extroirdinare, Fiona Hutchison will be sharing her love of all things weaving with us later this month.
Traditionally, our January meeting is given over to our AGM and this year was no different from previous years. More unusually for us was the venue, we decided to rent the kitchen in MY Place in Midleton. A great space, created for the community and somewhere we hope to utilise again.
The last guild meeting of 2019 was extremely busy, with lots of business to get through so we’d have the time to make at least one Felted Fairy.
Time for the Knitting & Stitching Show at the RDS!
We were thrilled to be given the opportunity to exhibit our Explorations in Colour Project on the Irish Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers stand at this year’s Knitting & Stitching Show.
The meeting room filled quickly as each member arrived, many of whom brought with them their 8×8 tapestry square to be mounted on an 8×8 painted canvas, in time for the Knitting & Stitching Show at the RDS, starting 7th November to 10th November 2019.
Friday evening saw eight members of HGC gathered in county Kerry, arriving at the Kerry Ocean Lodge, our hostelry for the weekend. Our host Eugene welcomed us, we found our rooms and unpacked. Mary, Lora, Heather, Yvonne, Patricia, Fiona, Stella and myself settled in for the weekend of spinning weaving and chatter. We were sorry Olwyn that you were not able to join us.
With so many of our members keen to work on their Explorations in Colour Tapestries, it was decided that our May get together would be a working meeting.
Each member brought their tapestry weaving project and Tish kindly agreed to be available to give advice to anyone who requested it. In addition to the sale/swap/contribute table, there was also an opportunity to swap yarn for the 8×8 tapestry squares.
There aren’t enough hours in the day of late and even when there are, it would seem my broadband connection has other ideas. That being said, our June meeting is fast approaching and I’ve realised I’m way behind with posts here.
So, travelling back in time to April, I wanted to quickly share the events of our meeting on the 27th, where we looked in more depth at dyeing with onion skins.
Our February meeting was held in Bishopstown Library on Saturday, 16th February 2019.
It was a very busy meeting and we were thrilled to welcome several new members. Is it too early to celebrate that news about our group is beginning to spread?
The guild first meeting of every year is given over to our AGM and was held in Bishopstown Library on Saturday, 19 January 2019, followed by a meal in The Wilton Steak Bar & Carvery.
The AGM provides a great opportunity to recount the guild’s achievements in the previous year and lay out some plans for the coming months.
